Best GeoGuessr Practice Tools in 2026

Updated · 3 min read

The best practice is GeoGuessr itself, in single-player. Around it: free alternatives like OpenGuessr to play more without a subscription, country guides like Plonk It to learn clues, geography quizzes like Seterra for maps and flags, and companions like TrustGeo (ours) that show the round’s location so you can review faster in single-player.

Kinds of GeoGuessr practice tools: the game, free alternatives, clue guides and quizzes, companions
Four kinds of practice tools, each good at something different.

1. GeoGuessr itself

Nothing replaces the real thing. Single-player maps, country maps and casual modes are ideal for practice. The full game needs a subscription; the free experience is limited.

  • Official coverage and all game modes
  • Country and regional maps for focused practice
  • Free play is limited

2. OpenGuessr and other free alternatives

Free browser games built on Street View, such as OpenGuessr, let you play many rounds without a subscription. Great for volume practice and warming up.

  • Free, no account needed to start
  • Different modes and map selection than GeoGuessr

3. Plonk It (learning guide)

Plonk It is a free, community-made guide with clues for each country: bollards, poles, signs, plates, landscapes. It’s the reference to look things up after a round.

  • Free, detailed, country by country
  • It’s reading, not playing: combine it with practice

4. Seterra and geography quizzes

Seterra (part of GeoGuessr) offers quizzes on countries, capitals, flags and regions. Knowing where countries and regions are makes your pin placement much better.

  • Quick daily drills
  • Doesn’t train reading Street View scenes

5. TrustGeo (our extension)

TrustGeo is a Chrome extension with a side panel that shows the location of the current round: coordinates, an interactive map and the place name (reverse geocoding). It works on GeoGuessr and OpenGuessr.

  • Faster reviews: see the exact place and region while the scene is still in front of you
  • Free tier (limited guesses per week), Pro at $5/month for unlimited use
  • It shows the answer, so it only helps you learn if you guess first
  • Pro also includes automation features (Auto Find, AutoPlace, Bot Mode, Score Range) that have nothing to do with learning
  • Using it in ranked games, duels or against other players breaks GeoGuessr’s rules and can get your account banned

Our honest take: use TrustGeo as a review tool in single-player, as described in how to get better at GeoGuessr, and never in competitive play.

The combination we’d recommend

  1. Play single-player or country maps (GeoGuessr or OpenGuessr).
  2. Review your worst rounds: on the results screen, or faster with a companion in single-player.
  3. Learn the clue you missed in Plonk It.
  4. Drill basics with quizzes: our free driving side quiz, plus map quizzes.

Start with the clues that matter most: GeoGuessr country clues to learn first.
